I have entered SolveEczema.org in a healthcare competition – Innovations for Health – sponsored by the Ashoka and Robert Wood Johnson Foundations. It’s unlikely to win, but if the entry is well-received, I may make good connections or find resources to help further work in the future. The organizers have told entrants to reach out to our social networks for comments, that they make a big difference.
Please make a comment to the competition entry, or contribute to the discussion. Early finalists will be announced March 19.
The entry:

Hi- I just found your website and we are about to start this process of switching to soap products to help my youngest son who has head to toe eczema. I have been reading The Solutions page and am wondering about something. You said bananas were one of the foods your son had the most trouble with. What is it about bananas do you think that would cause them to have more detergents? I strongly suspect detergents are the cause of my son’s allergies b/c he fits EVERY ONE of the “Signs” you list on that page. But he loves bananas, and eats several a day. We have been on many elimination diets and already cut several foods. I am wondering I we need to add bananas to that list but I’m trying to understand how they would have acquired detergent. Thank you for all you do – such a great website!! Will be making a donation when I can!
I wanted to thank you for the posts you shared and your website. My son is now six and a half and his skin is great. When he was a baby, he suffered terribly from the eczema and all the pediatricians could do was recommend steroid creams and Aquafor. I found your website, made the switch away from detergent and my son’s skin improved tremendously. We went through a rough patch in pre-school when the teachers sprayed cleansers religiously on every surface he touched, but thank goodness he got through it and they don’t clean like that at his new school. I’m extremely grateful to you for sharing all this information and helping me get our little boy to an itch free life.
